Wild West’s First Match!

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

Along with about 20 other competitors, I had the honor today of participating in this brand new club’s first match. What a hoot!! Ray has done a bang up job of launching a new club, at a premeir facility, the Founder’s Ranch. You are likely to see deer in the morning, Bison all day long, and the backdrop to the bays is pinon and cedar. Birds chirping all the time, even a few hawks wandering around. Ray had some help from some local RGPSC club members, and all in all it was great!

The new club is a big plus on the local scene. For me, the miles to the range (27) is identical to the miles to the City Range, and the scenery is a whole bunch better. Took the VF750CD for a cruise.

It’s all worth exploring; I know I’ll be there on every 4th Sunday!! The club will grow, there is no doubt. The rate of growth is up to you. The more people who shoot, the more this new club can funnel back into prop purchases. Help them out, come shoot!!

RGPSC members should know that we have loaned 50 target stands to Wild West, and have agreed to purchase expendable items (like targets, tape, scoresheets) in bulk so that both clubs may benefit.

Did I mention, Come Shoot!”?

The majority of the groundwork has been laid, and the first match for WWPSC has been tentatively set for June 29.  We are currently looking for charter members, for the club.  The hope is to have 20 charter members at $50 dollars each, to help get the club going.  I will be at the May 24 RGPSC match if you guys have any questions.

Thanks, Ray

May Match Schedule Change

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

Our May 17 match has been moved to May 24. The entire range is dedicated on the 17th and 18th to the New Mexico Expo, a worthwhile event for the young people of our state. The schedule change happens every year in May, depending on which weekend the Expo is held.

We may be holding a demo stage for the kids during the Expo on Saturday the 17th. Stay tuned.

Two Things From the Club Secretary

Monday, January 21st, 2008

Pat has two things:

Club elections:

–Nominations will be accepted at any time previous to the election. All nominees (if any) must contact one of the Board members accepting the nomination (so we know the individual knows of the nomination) unless the person is nominating themselves.

–Elections will take place at the February 16 match

Club Dues:

The dues grace period will extend to the February 16 match. Any matches shot before or after that date will not be counted in the yearly match standings if dues are not paid by then. Any matches shot after that date will be charged non member match fees ($13.00/match).

Jared Kicks Butt at Western States Single Stack

Monday, January 14th, 2008

Wow!!! 14th overall, Top B Class, High Albuquerque Shooter! His 81% even beat some GM’s, Masters and the like. In a crowded field of 190 shooters, including the likes of Robbie and Taran, this is truly outstanding!

Doesn’t seem to matter what kind of gun he picks up!

Pat Mileshosky earns CRO

Chief Range Officer is not an easy thing to do! It takes a lot of work, a lot of study, and passing the grade from one of USPSA’s finest tutors.

Congrats, Pat. Watch out, club, for the latest omnipetent :) official.

cya on the range.

4th Annual High Desert Classic at Albuquerque

Saturday, October 27th, 2007

June 7 and 8, 2008. Staff shoots 5th and 6th. At this time, this is not the NM Secional, just our annual hoot! Setup starts the weekend before. Wednesday (hopefully) is a day off for all the workers so they can give the match a worthy effort. 9 stages, maybe a chrono. We will not be using the two police bays this year. We are restricited to a late Friday setup, and required to tear down Sunday after the match. Way too much rush and bother to get setup when we are already tired. We’ll use another open bay near the city office, the PPC range we used last year, and the silhouette range west of our normal six bays.

We’ll need setup help. Please plan on donating your time to help the club. We’ll need dedicated RO’s. All staff shoot the match for no charge. If you RO’d in the past, we need you to do it again. If you want to RO, lemme (Rod Ca) no. Thx, cya there.

Thanks, Wayne!

Our steel poppers take a lot of abuse. Getting shot over and over and over, thousands upon thousands of rounds, even on very hard steel, tends to do some damage eventually. The poppers slowly, but inevitably, bend out of shape. This is hardened steel. It’s not like you’re going to take a sledge hammer to them to flatten them back out. Fortunately, we have a club member, Wayne (the only one) who has access to enormous hydraulic presses (650 - 750 ton), and knows how to use them. He has repaired all of our poppers over the last year or so, and the latest (and final) phase was the mini-poppers. He also did some welding repairs as needed, and you really ought to let him know he does good work!

Thanks, Wayne!

Colorado State

Monday, September 3rd, 2007

The championships were held over the Labor Day weekend in Montrose, and some local shooters cleaned up! Damon was 1st A Limited, Randy was 2nd L-10, and Jerry took 2nd Master Open, as well as $100 for 3rd in the shoot off. Wayne and Bart took 2nd and 3rd in A Limited. 10 stages in one day sounds like a lot, but when you mix in low round hosers, medium round and a few high round count stages, it seemed to work out Ok. Thanks to Greg Stanway (and Joyce) who did most of the design and setup work. Greg’s hand was actually cramped from the staple gun! Tommy didn’t eat his vegetables, and Rod was called a Tall Fat Tire. All in all, a fun weekend.

19 Shooters at a practice match?

Sunday, August 26th, 2007

Some clubs may call that a real match! Great turnout today; at least five brand new shooters. Everyone got to shoot Jerry’s latest creation at least 3 times. Thx to all, a fine (big) squad. Y’all come back now, ya hear!

East Mountain Club?

Friday, August 10th, 2007

I have been in contact with the owners of Founders Ranch, in Edgewood about possibly starting a club in the East Mountains. Founders Ranch is a large facility with 17 shooting bays.  The range holds three large SASS matches every year including the thier world championship.  Is there anyone that would like to be involved with starting of a club in the East Mountains?  Here is a link to the website: http://www.foundersranch.com

September 1st Match Cancelled!!

Sunday, August 5th, 2007

At our August 4th match, the participants (almost 40) were asked if they would be attending the September 1 match. Many are going to the Colorado State Match in Montrose, many are going dove hunting, a few are going to a family reunion, and the net result is no one will be here to shoot. Guess what? Match is cancelled! Note that the August 18th match is on as usual. cya there.
