I have been in contact with the owners of Founders Ranch, in Edgewood about possibly starting a club in the East Mountains. Founders Ranch is a large facility with 17 shooting bays. The range holds three large SASS matches every year including the thier world championship. Is there anyone that would like to be involved with starting of a club in the East Mountains? At our August 4th match, the participants (almost 40) were asked if they would be attending the September 1 match. Many are going to the Colorado State Match in Montrose, many are going dove hunting, a few are going to a family reunion, and the net result is no one will be here to shoot. Guess what? Match is cancelled! Note that the August 18th match is on as usual. cya there.

For the first time ever, Larry won the Limited Division at today’s RGPSC Match. Beating the likes of Hamel, Myers, Bartolo, Cassidy, Benson, etal!!! Well done, Larry. Do it again, my friend!
A good number of the club’s members will be attending the Mile Hi Championships in Ramah, Colorado this weekend, and after all the toil of the NM Section we could all use a break. No match this weekend, see us again on July 7!
We’re getting close to capacity with the match still 3 weeks away. If you are planning on attending, best get the application and fee submitted right away. The fee goes from $85 to $100 on May 15, but there may not be any slots left by then, anyway!
If you submitted your application on-line, but have yet to mail your payment, kindly get that done.

Immediately after our May 19th match we will hold a chicken fest! All the chicken you can possibly eat (courtesy of Chef Mike Patrick), along with soft drinks and other fixin’s.
Oh, yeah, we’ll also give out about 65 (suitable for framing) awards for the overall calendar year 2006.
The PPC range building is reserved! Wanna bring the spouse? Get him to shoot the match as well. Really, just bring the spouse, bring the kids, PLENTY of food! Wanna bring your dogs? Tough. Bring a doggy bag.

The normal RGPSC first Saturday match for May 2007 (only May) has been moved from May 5 to the second Saturday, May 12. The reason for the change is a pre-existing reservation of the the entire range for “Expo”. Note that we will have the regular third Saturday match on May 19, as well as the normal practice / orientation match on Sunday, May 27.
… That’s what the Range Officer Class consumed in just two days! The only reason it wasn’t more was that Jerry (by himself) was out setting up the practice stage, and then took it all down and put it away (by himself). If you did this class, the next time you see Jerry, you better thank him!
The class was great, everyone seemed to have fun, and learned a great deal at the same time. George Jones, who flew in from New Jersey to instruct the class, did a superb job, in spite of the wind. Oh, yeah, the wind did blow on Sunday afternoon. George learned something as well: New Mexico Spring.
22 new RO’s for the State of New Mexico: Hobbs, Carlsbad, Albuquerque, Deming, Las Cruces, and El Paso. Yup, we own El Paso as well, you just don’t know it yet.

The number of slots allocated to the New Mexico Section this year is 4 for Limited / Production / Revolver and 2 for Open / Limited 10. The Section Coordinator has allocated 1 of each to RGPSC / Caja, and the other four are allocated to other Section Clubs. The two slots for RGPSC have been awarded.
So, if you are thinking about going to either National match, you should sign up on the USPSA waiting list as soon as it becomes available on March 28. Complete information about the process is at USPSA.org. Click the USPSA Nationals button at the top.
RGPSC will host the match again! This is the third year in a row we’ve held the match at the Albuquerque City Shooting Range Park. This year, we’ve moved the match up to June 1-3. It gets hot in August, and after last year’s heat and rain we wanted to hold this match at a better time of year. Early June in New Mexico can’t be beat. It doesn’t start to get hot until late June, and the monsoon kicks in like clockwork in early July. We expect great weather!
This year, we’ll be running 9 stages (on 9 separate berms), all with a dedicated RO staff. Expect 250 rounds plus on our trademark challenging and fun stages.
Shooters from around the Southwest have come to realize that we put on a good show. In 2005 we had 97 shooters. In 2006 we had close to 130 shooters. We’ve capped this year’s match at 135 shooters plus the staff. With 9 stages, we’ll be able to handle this amount of shooters just fine.
Staff shoots on Friday, June 1, and the rest of the competitors can expect 6 or 7 stages on Saturday, and 2 or 3 on Sunday. This is a trophy match, and we go deep on the trophies! Expect some prizes to be raffled, a good lunch on Saturday (included in the match fee), and an “above average” match.

Last weekend’s snow turned into something entirely different for this Sunday’s regular practice match. A warm New Mexico sun and some very frozen ground soon started becoming a big mud pie. By mid morning, ten real shooters were slogging around on one of Jerry’s more torturous stages. Some grown adults were observed playing patty-cake in the mud like five year olds, and one of Jerry’s magazines, on a reload, landed, and stayed, full vertical in the mud.
We soon began to wonder which was more fun: The Snow or The Mud? The gang just kept coming back for more slip-sliding away. As the day wore on, the ground thawed more, and we found ourselves getting stuck. Even real shooters have to admit to defeat. Aw, the thrill of victory and the agony of da feet.
Five hardy shooters made it out to today’s (1/20) club match. Two inches of snow is no deterrent to real crazys. Jerry, Larry, and Rod set up another superb stage by Jerry, then set up a classifier as well. Nancy and Desmond made it in from Mountainair (yes, a two hour drive), and we all had a hoot in the snow. The morning started out with even some blue sky, and a light snow settled in later. Larry’s gun broke, but we shot the stage twice, and the classifier as well. By then, the snow was sticking to the targets too much to tape. Beautiful day. Jerry won Open, Desmond took Production, Nancy walked away with High Lady (in Blue) and Rod limped to victory in Limited.
Oh yeah, Nancy hit the swingers. A Lot!
